The Better Sweater

You’re a sailor, a fine one at that.  One that has sailed remote regions of the world and delivered large yachts to their owners in places like the Med, St Barthe, Greece and Australia.  A friend calls to ask if you want to crew on a delivery from Southwest Harbor, Maine to the boat basin on Nantucket in late October on a brand-new Swan 75.  Yup, the Rolls Royce of the sea, gorgeous lines, and sails like a stallion in full gallop.  Twist your arm, right?  Sailing the Maine coast is a dream, lots of nooks and harbors to explore, and lots of seals and whales. Nothing better than crisp salt air in your lungs.  You’re about 150 miles offshore and you have the 12-4am watch. The sky is ablaze with stars, the milky way is vibrant and the phosphorescence glows in two long contrails trailing the stern.  This is life, adventure and beauty all in one package.  It’s chilly in the cockpit, you reach into the quarter berth and grab your new hefty Better Sweater.  Because there are sweaters, and then there are Better Sweaters.
